Why consider a “Scout” type setup for your rifle?

A LER (Long Eye Relief) optic, or Scout Scope, mounted forward of the receiver provides a substantial uninterrupted overall field of view. This unconfined environment results in greater situational awareness allowing for fast target acquisition and shots taken with both eyes open. This configuration has additional advantages for bolt action MilSurp (military surplus) rifle platforms as it does not interfere with spent casing ejection, straight bolt handles or stripper clip use.

LOOKS CAN BE DECEIVING – Some notes about the M91/30 barrel dovetail under the rear sight block and fitment of the Go Low™ Scout Mount.

Dovetail Taper

The barrel dovetail is tapered longitudinally.  –  Like the original rear sight block, the Go Low™ mount is designed with a mating dovetail.  It is machined to the nominal* barrel dovetail taper. Once the mount is properly seated, the taper of the dovetail will prevent rearward movement of the mount.  The shallow angle of the dovetail taper creates a self-locking engagement. The supplied lateral cross bolts act as a “backup” to this tight fitment restricting forward movement. The two jam screws engaged through the top of the mount into the upper surface of the dovetail then yield a system of restriction with triple redundancy.

Dovetail “Yaw”

The barrel dovetail often leads off at an angle to the bore axis.  –  The rear sight block itself will exhibit this same “yaw” as it is directly attached to the dovetail. This is not of significant consequence to the utilization of the original rear sight and is often imperceptible to the eye. However, this condition can adversely affect systems that utilize this area as a point of attachment. Should your barrel dovetail “yaw” or lead off to the left or right, the Picatinny Rail on the Go Low mount can be adjusted to compensate up to 1.5° per side. While this may not seem like much, 1.5° over 100 yards is almost 8 feet.

This product provides for the mounting of a scout scope or other long eye relief (LER) optics to the Mosin Nagant M91/30 rifle without the need to drill and tap the receiver or make any permanent modifications to firearm. It is designed to replace the rear sight block of the M91/30.

SPECIFICATIONS:

The Go Low™ Scout Mount and MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny Rail are machined from solid steel with a black oxide finish. When installed, the top surface of mount is 11/16” (.6875”) above bore centerline. With the low profile Picatinny Rail installed, total height becomes 1” above bore centerline. The mount weighs 3.6 oz. and the 5-3/4” (approx.) long Picatinny Rail weighs 1.8 oz.

*FITMENT NOTES:

We have made every reasonable effort to ensure that this product will fit the Mosin Nagant M19/30 rifle. However, due to the large number of firearms produced over many years from multiple arsenals, it is impossible for us to allow for all manufacturing variation. As with any of our products, it may be returned undamaged for a full refund. Proper installation and tightening of all hardware should result in no movement of the mount during normal firing recoil. NOTE: Any scope or mount that suffers an impact (dropped, hit, etc.) should not be trusted to be accurate. If you feel your mount or optic has been compromised in anyway, discontinue use immediately.

NOTE:

A MAPP (Methyl Acetylene Propadience Propane) gas torch and heavy duty punch may be required to remove existing pins from the rear sight block if they are soldered in place. You can usually find these items at your local hardware or plumbers supply. The application of heat, if done properly, will not cause damage. Keep in mind that you only need to reach the melting point of the solder and that this same temperature was achieved during original construction without adverse effects. Procedure provided in supplied instructions.
